We went for the Halloween trail on a cold October evening and it was brilliant. The woodland was atmospheric, the pumpkin patch was well stocked and the children did not want to leave. Book as soon as dates go live as it fills up very fast.
High Lodge Farm is a working farm on the edge of Culham, run by four sisters who have built a reputation for well-organised seasonal family events. It sits eight miles south of Oxford and five miles from Didcot Parkway station, making it easy to reach from across the county.
The farm opens to the public around five times a year for events rather than running as a daily visitor attraction. The Easter trail takes families into the farm's woodland for challenges and a chocolate treat at the end. Summer events typically include big bale play, where children can scramble on large straw bales in an open field. The Halloween season brings the pumpkin patch, a spooky trail and evening woodland events with atmospheric lighting. There is also a small campsite with grass pitches and bell tents for families wanting to stay overnight.
Because the farm is event-driven, booking in advance is essential and dates sell out quickly. The setting is genuinely rural and the activities have a pleasingly low-tech feel: the fun comes from the outdoor space and the farm environment rather than manufactured rides or screens. Children who enjoy open space, wildlife and a bit of mud tend to have a brilliant time.
