The Story Museum in central Oxford is a museum devoted entirely to stories and the joy of reading, and it is designed for children to play their way through. The Whispering Wood and the immersive galleries let visitors step into the worlds of beloved books, with magical sets, dressing-up, dens, props and interactive scenes that invite imaginative play rather than quiet looking. It is hands-on from start to finish.
The enchanted woodland, story-themed rooms and play areas suit younger children especially, while changing exhibitions and events bring in older ones and book-loving families. There is storytelling, a good cafe, a shop full of books and a real warmth to the place.
