The water play in summer kept ours occupied for hours, so pack swimwear and towels. The bison are the unusual highlight, but it is really an adventure-play day at heart.
Cattle Country Adventure Park near Berkeley combines a working farm with a large adventure playground, and it is one of the more action-packed family days in the county. The farm has bison, the animals it is best known for, alongside the usual sheep, goats, pigs and small animals to meet, plus tractor rides and feeding. But the play areas are what fill the day.
Expect big outdoor slides and climbing frames, a jumping pillow, go-karts, an indoor play barn for wet weather and, in summer, a popular outdoor water play and splash area. The scale means older children get plenty out of it, not just the under-fives, and there is a seasonal maize maze and events through the year. It is geared to active play more than quiet farm time.
It suits all ages, with the youngest enjoying the animals and soft play and older children the slides, karts and water. Bring swimwear in summer and expect to stay most of the day.
